about

The next release on Bryan Chapman’s self-run Monotony is the fourth and final part of the label’s opening quartet of conceptual EPs.

So far we’ve seen “the traveller” go into the wilderness on ‘Traveler Departs For Manonasa EP’ (MNTY001) to remove himself from reality and begin the internal journey of finding answers from the eternal depths of the self on ‘Ekanta Vasa EP’ (MNTY002). The intricate internal journey then began on ‘Jnana Found, Jagrat Begins EP’ (MNTY003) and with the knowledge learnt from within, the traveler awakens, forever changed into a new enlightened world of “Sumbodhi” [Supreme Enlightenment], which is where we now find the latest edition, ‘Traveler Awakens Sumbodhi EP’.

This EP continues with the stripped-down, hypnotic and looped Techno that Bryan has become synonymous with, yet opener ‘Kalpa’ also displays a touch of gentleness that we haven’t heard in some of his tougher work, like the following track, ‘Dewi Uma’ with its dark distortion. The pounding and warped ‘Batara’ comes next with infectious power, before ‘Tiamat’ delivers a sonic snapshot of the profundity in Bryan’s EP concept.

Once again the artwork on the release is by Bryan himself (in his other guise as an artist) and links with the artwork from the first three releases as they are all zoomed versions of this EP’s artwork.
